The Washington girls’ golf team took fifth at Mount Pleasant in a tightly contested conference meet on Monday.

Despite the fifth place placement, the Demons were just 13 strokes off of Fort Madison, the big winners for the day. Adalyn Long led the Demons with a 45, good for second place overall on a day where most teams saw higher scores than usual. The overall champion was Fort Madison junior Kylie Lumino, who shot a 7-over 43.

Ahead of the Demons was Fairfield in second, Keokuk in third, and the host Mount Pleasant in fourth. Washington will head to Oskaloosa on Thursday for an invitational with several other area schools.
