The City of Wellman has approved its fiscal year 2027 budget, setting the stage for where the city will spend and make its money for the next year.
The budget was approved by the Wellman city council at its April 20th meeting. Its approval came after a short public hearing, during which there were no calls or comments from the public.
Wellman City Administrator Kelly Litwiller says not much has changed between last year’s budget and this year’s budget on the operational side. She says a chunk of the budget is being used to support the city’s ongoing projects, including water main projects, wrapping up the back portion of the bridge project on Ginkgo Avenue, and the Wellman Veterans and First Responders Memorial, which is slated to begin construction in the coming weeks.
Litwiller says the biggest thing on the budget would likely be the debt levy the city has taken out to support some of those projects, “We did take out a debt levy for the bridge and water main projects, so that obviously has increased another tax portion of the budget itself. So, the rate for the Wellman residents is roughly $11.88, $11.87, 83, so not a huge change from last year, just obviously just adding the debt for paying the bridge and water main project.”
Other items on Monday’s agenda included a monthly update from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and update from ION Environmental for the city’s water and wastewater.
