A discussion setting a public hearing on the proposed property tax levy for fiscal year 2026 will be had this evening by the Washington City Council.
The public hearing is set for April 7th, if approved this evening. Fiscal year 2025 was the first year for a series of requirements from the State of Iowa for local taxing entities. One of those changes was a new public hearing that must be held around April 1st by any entity requesting property taxes for the upcoming fiscal year.
There will also be discussion to accept the resignation of City Clerk Kathy Kron. She submitted her letter of resignation to the council on February 19th stating that her final day will be March 5th. The letter states that she has been offered another position. She has been the city clerk since October of 2024.
Also on the agenda is a workshop to discuss Tax Increment Financing debt certification and items related to the MSJ Subdivision.
The meeting is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. in Washington City Hall.
