
Two fatalities have been confirmed following a residential fire in Fairfield late Thursday evening.
Just after 10 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, officers with the Fairfield Police Department were dispatched by 911 following a report of a residential fire near the intersection of South B Street and Monroe Avenue. The Fairfield Fire Department also responded and began extinguishing the fire.
Fire personnel then entered the residence, removing two occupants found inside. Both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Iowa State Fire Marshal will conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. At this time, no foul play is suspected, but the investigation remains active and ongoing. The residence is considered to be a total loss. The names of the deceased have not been released.
