If you come at the King…you best not miss. At the Southeast Conference Championship meet Thursday in Mount Pleasant, the rest of the field could not unseat Demon senior Andrew Rees, who made it back-to-back conference titles in 2025. Rees was the individual champ by more than 15 seconds at 16:39. He spoke with KCII Sports Thursday about the race and win. “This feels really good. This course is tough mentally. I’m proud and thankful for everything.”
The Demons finished as team runners-up with 44 points. Fort Madison was the overall winner at 27 points. Alongside Rees, other Demon finishers included Jack Shepherd sixth, Sawyer Tschantz 10th, Ethan Hotchkiss 11th. Parker Tschantz 16th, Xavi Recendez 18th, Teag Miller 19th, Fletcher Brower 21st, Quintyn Garibay 41st and Logan Hoback 46th. Shepherd and Sawyer Tschantz both earned All-Conference medals.
For the Demon girls it was a second place finish with 50 points. Fort Madison was the winner with 29. Emma Horak led the Demons in fourth at 21:27. Avery Fedler from Mount Pleasant was the winner on her home course in 18:42. Other Washington runners included Kora Miller fifth, Angeline Anderson eighth, Ellie Van Der Molen 22nd, Zully Aranda Terrones 23rd, Allie Wulf 25th, Isobel Murphy 32nd, Kenzie Thomas 33rd, and Denisse Gonzalez Urena 38th. Horak, Miller and Anderson were All-SEC medalists.
The Demons are back in action Wednesday at the 3A State Qualifier meet in Williamsburg.
