The Sigourney Savages and Keota Eagles took part in this year’s South Iowa Cedar League Track & Field Championships Tuesday at Colfax-Mingo.

The Sigourney boys finished fifth in team scoring, thanks largely to a pair of victories for Jayden Thompson. The junior was the conference champion in the shot put with a top toss of 46 feet seven-and-a-half inches, and Thompson also won the league crown in the discus by hitting 140 feet on his top throw.

Junior Troy Klett finished second in both the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs for Sigourney, while Keota sophomore Ayden Galindo was third in the high jump. On the girls’ side, Ellie Yates was runner-up in the 1,500 and third in the 3,000 for the Savages.

Fellow junior Addison Yates took third in the 1,500, as did freshman teammate Brynn Clarahan in the 400-meter hurdles. Junior Olivia Lyle had the best finish for the Eagle girls by taking seventh place in both the 100 and 200.
