The District Court upheld the Contest Court’s 2-1 January decision that election results stood in the passage of a bond measure for the Highland Community School District. The opposing party has 30 days to appeal the District Court’s decision. That clock’s countdown began April 29th.
The hearings were in regards to an issue that arose on Election Day in Ainsworth. The November election results showed 61-percent of voters approved the $15-million bond measure, however it was discovered that some voters at the Ainsworth precinct were given the wrong ballots.
Highland Superintendent Ken Crawford explains that if there is no appeal, then the school district will move forward with hiring a Construction Manager at Risk and begin the design phase of the projects associated with the bond funds. Those projects include renovating the high school cafeteria, a new multipurpose athletic facility and locker rooms at the high school, collaboration and classroom additions at the elementary school, and improved safe and secure entry at the elementary school.
