When you think of winter sports in southeast Iowa, most turn their attention to the gym, whether it’s the court, the mat or the bow and arrow. Mid-Prairie’s Griffin Caskey wants to make sure you don’t forget cycling. The Golden Hawk sophomore is a State Champion after his performance at last month’s Iowa State Cyclocross Championships in Altoona. Caskey won the Men’s Category 3 state title at Lion’s Park. With the victory he was awarded 260 rider points, moving him to 85th nationally of more than 250 competitors listed. He placed fifth overall in the pro race. Caskey is a member of the Corridor Devo Junior Cycling Team based in Iowa City.

The Iowa State Cyclocross Championship race gave riders in Caskey’s division one hour to cover as much distance as they could on the looped course.
