The first girl/boy doubleheader of the winter will be tomorrow for the Winfield-Mt. Union basketball teams when they make a trip to face off with Southeast Iowa Super Conference foe Pekin.

The WMU girls are off to a quick 2-0 start including last week’s 52-43 victory over WACO. Kyndal Townsley has racked up 21 points in the two games and Farrah Nelson has hauled in 14 rebounds. The Panthers started the season with a 46-32 win over Albia on Tuesday. They bring back four of their top five scorers from a team that went 12-7 last year including Kerrigan Pope and her 11.6 points and 6.9 boards a night.

This will be the opener for the WMU boys and they will have a new look this season after losing 10 players to graduation from a 7-17 campaign. Bryce Wade is the lone player with substantial varsity experience and will look to build off of 45 points and 68 rebounds. Pekin is the defending SEISC-North Champs after a 19-5 record and they return their top scorer in Brady Millikin with 13.3 points per game.

The girls’ game gets underway at 6 p.m. tomorrow with the boys to follow in Packwood.
