One win short of a state bid is the conclusion to the 2020 season for the WACO volleyball team, as the Warriors were swept last night by Burlington Notre Dame in a class 1A regional final at Mount Pleasant High School.

The Warriors scratched and clawed in each set by getting out to fast starts, but ended up on the short end of 25-22, 25-18, and 25-15 scores. Morgan Graber led the offense with 13 kills and Ellie Miles chipped in with six. Grace Coble finished with 25 assists, Aubri Garnsey tallied 19 digs, and the team had a 95% serve efficiency with five aces.

Head Coach Jay Coble tells KCII Sports what makes BND so dangerous and what they can take away from a successful season. “The biggest thing was even when we had our block they could go over top of our block at times. That is a class 3A quality team playing in 1A. When you have four quality hitters and have that good of a setter it makes things tough. Our accomplishments are tremendous with 26 wins and going to sub-state with this group of kids was a lot of fun.”

WACO finished the year 26-8 overall and bid farewell to a loaded senior class of 11 that includes Graber, Garnsey, Miles, Lindsey Roth, Lela Fort, Molly McLaughlin, Lona Farrier, Olivia Leichty, Kaylee Shelman, Laurie Ackles, and Taylor Sammons.
