A hay barn caught fire Wednesday evening near Kalona. The barn was located three miles northwest of Kalona at 1881 Johnson-Washington Road. At approximately 6:30 p.m. smoke could be seen from miles outside of Kalona as crews arrived at the scene. Multiple county and city departments were called to the scene, including: Kalona Fire Department, Wellman Fire Department, Riverside Fire Department, Washington Fire Department, Hills Fire Department, Washington County Ambulance, and Washington County Sheriff’s personnel. Crews from the five fire departments extinguished the flames around 7 p.m.
