The road to the dome begins now for all remaining Iowa High School football teams and #10 ranked Washington will make a trip north to Epworth in hopes to take down #1 Western Dubuque tonight in the first round of the class 3A playoffs.
Any football fan should be chomping at the bit to see the matchup between the Demons’ (7-2) high-flying offense against the Bobcats’ (9-0) suffocating defense. Washington is fresh off of a thrilling 64-61 win over Mount Pleasant on Friday where Luke Turner compiled 473 yards of total offense and was responsible for six touchdowns. Turner and company will be put to test against a Bobcat team that gives up less than nine points a game. Washington head coach James Harris tells KCII Sports that defense is the whole package. “They have the most fundamentally sound 3-4 defense I have seen all year. The outside linebackers read the line of scrimmage really well by taking away the run and also taking away the underneath passing game. The team runs to the football exceptionally well and they stay committed to their 3-4 looks.” Carter Kluesner leads the team with 48 tackles. On the other side, Calvin Harris is an efficient passer completing 70% of his throws for 1,662 yards and 22 touchdowns.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Western Dubuque High School in Epworth. Listen to the game on AM and FM KCII starting with the pregame show at 6:30 p.m. The Football Friday Preview Show will run from 5:30-6:30 p.m. analyzing many playoff games around the state.
