The cross country season culminates this weekend in Fort Dodge for the annual state meet.

Washington’s Lance Sobaski qualified for his first ever-state meet on Thursday when he placed 13th at districts in Solon. The sophomore tells KCII Sports just going last year to watch and having experienced the state atmosphere before will help him on Saturday. “I think I’ll be prepared because you always run better on a course you have seen before. I’ll know where to surge because as a spectator you can see where people usually slow down. If I can push through that it will help out a lot.” Sobaski watched fellow teammate Evan Horak run there last year and he credits the senior for his rise this season. “Running with Evan the past two years has really helped me. He has been a leader and bro in general. We always talk about our game plan before a race and we just go out and execute it.”

Sobaski runs in the class 3A boys’ race at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday in Fort Dodge. Listen to KCII every hour on the hour for updates on all 16-area runners.
