Gunshots fired at a group of people at a campground in Henry County over the weekend prompted an investigation and a day later a man turned himself in. According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call was received at 10:31 p.m. Saturday for shots being fired at a group. The incident happened at the Ketchum Bridge Campground, along the Skunk River west of Mt. Pleasant. Authorities located multiple shell casings and confirmed that a firearm had been discharged in the area. The shooter had fled the area. Henry County Sheriff’s Office personnel were unable to locate the offender.

Sunday afternoon just before 2 p.m., 45-year-old Todd Smith turned himself in. He was charged with two counts of intimidation with a dangerous weapon, going armed with intent, and assault while displaying a dangerous weapon. Bond was set at $15,000. He was taken to the Henry County Jail. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, Henry County Attorney’s Office, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Iowa State Patrol.
