i80-218-380-interchange

A fatal wreck on I-80 had six vehicles involved, including two driven by men from the KCII-listening area. According to the Iowa State Patrol, at 3:01 p.m. Friday, six vehicles crashed on I-80 near Coralville. Drivers included 79-year-old Jacob Yoder of Kalona, 70 Jerry Fulk of New London, as well as two people from Cedar Rapids and two from Iowa City. A car merged onto I-80 eastbound from the northbound lanes of Highway 218. That car had mechanical issues and stopped. Due to construction it was unable to get off the traveled portion of the road and caused a chain reaction crash. Five cars collided and the sixth vehicle was a Peterbilt. The driver of the fifth car was 52-year-old Morgan Downing Rosenthal of Iowa City and she died.

That interchange is undergoing major changes to make the I-80 and I-380 travel safer and easier. Work is expected to be complete in Fiscal Year 2021.
