midprairie-3

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team saw improvement in the 2019 season under first year head coach Mallory McArtor. The Hawks captured nine wins during the year, a five win improvement over the previous season and scored wins over ranked teams Fairfield, Wilton and rival Iowa City Regina. The Golden Hawks also beat Keokuk, swept a conference doubleheader from Tipton and scored wins over West Branch, Bellevue and Monticello. The Golden Hawks had a strong group of seniors on this year’s team led by Cassidy Rourke, a former JET Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week in 2019. Rourke led the River Valley Conference with eight home runs, sixth most in the state. Her 23 RBI were best on the team and 10th in the conference, her .636 slugging percentage led the Hawks and was seventh in the RVC. Along with her work at the plate Rourke led Mid-Prairie in the circle, throwing a team high 111 innings, compiling five wins to lead the team and a 5.08 ERA, eighth in the River Valley. Her 67 strikeouts were eighth in the conference. She was an all-south division RVC selection. Mid-Prairie finished with a 9-21 overall record.
