Today we start our top 10 best sports stories at Washington High School for this past academic year and number 10 on our list takes us to the softball diamond in a dramatic come from behind victory for the Demons.

The date was June 13th in a crucial home doubleheader against Fort Madison that had a lot of Southeast Conference positioning on the line. In game one the Demons struggled for just a few hits off of Bloodhound pitching in the first six innings and trailed 1-0 heading into the final frame. As they had numerous times throughout the season, the cardiac kids would not go down without a fight, putting traffic on the base paths and a RBI single by Alexa Mitchell tied the game at 1-1. With two runners on senior Haylee Wilson took the game into her own hands by drilling a walk-off three run home run that sent the Demon crowd into a frenzy. She told KCII Sports it was a moment she won’t soon forget. “Not going to lie, I started to tear up as I hit it and it was one of the best feelings ever.”

Washington would go on to win 22 games, their highest total since 2013. Check back in tomorrow for number 9 on our countdown that takes us to the baseball diamond.
