midprairie-3

It will take two nights to finish the class 2A district 6 baseball final, as Saturday’s game in Wellman between Mid-Prairie and West Branch was suspended in the fourth inning with the Bears up 5-0.

Golden Hawk pitcher Keegan Gingerich got into some trouble in the first giving up two runs on two hits and a pair of walks headlined by a RBI double from Tanner Lukavsky. Mid-Prairie had an opportunity to answer in the bottom half with the first two batters reaching via walk, but Bear hurler Trey Eagle buckled down to record a fly out, strikeout, and pop out to get out of the frame unscathed. The Bears tacked on one more in the third when Brad Tornow replaced Gingerich in the fourth. West Branch jumped on him with a pair of singles to push the score to 5-0 when the game went into a lightning delay with two outs in the top of the fourth. After a nearly two-hour wait, officials decided to call it and pick up where they left off tonight.

The game will resume starting at 7 p.m. in Wellman. Listen to the remainder of the contest on AM 1380 and FM 102.5 KCII starting at 6:30 p.m. The winner tonight will have a quick turnaround and face off with Camanche tomorrow at Central DeWitt for the right to go to state.
