washington-baseball-2-2

The Washington baseball team will try to continue to ride the postseason wave tonight when they welcome #2 ranked Davenport Assumption to Dick Sojka Memorial Field for a class 3A district 9 final.

The Demons are riding high after a 3-2 walk-off win over Mount Vernon in the first round on Friday. With one out in the seventh Brady Knutson had a single to left field to plate Luke Turner for the victory. Washington should be sitting pretty in the pitching department, as no hurler threw more than 40 pitches on Friday. The Demons are 22-8 and receiving votes in the latest Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association poll. Davenport Assumption has been rolling along all year en route to a 29-4 record including a methodical 12-0 win over Keokuk in the first round. The Knights pitching has been lights out with a 1.96 team ERA led by Brandon Schlichting’s 0.83. All nine batters in the line up have a batting average north of .300 led by Schlichting’s .398.

The chance to move one step closer to state gets underway at 7 p.m. tonight in Washington. Listen to the broadcast on FM 106.1 KCII starting at 6:30 p.m.
