ims-3

A busy week was started on the right foot for the IMS baseball team on Monday, as they traveled to Riverside and downed Highland 5-1 in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference game.

As heard on KCII, IMS struck first plating two runs in the second thanks to a RBI single from Cody Jones and sac fly from Trevor Leyden. Eli Ours extended the lead in the fourth with a RBI knock only to have Highland get that run back with a solo shot from Jacob Leonard in the bottom half. A few more IMS runs late was more than enough for senior hurler Blake Bontrager, who threw a complete game three-hitter and struck out seven. Head Coach Danny Hershberger tells KCII Sports Bontrager was in complete control. “He did a great job setting the tone by being aggressive and attacking the strike zone. He made them hit tough pitches and our defense backed him up. A really fantastic job by him and he gave us an opportunity tonight.” Noah Miller and Jacob Boller led the offense each going 2-for-4. Leonard picked up the loss for Highland but was 2-for-3 at the dish.

That was the first game of six this week for 3-1 IMS, as they travel to Burlington Notre Dame tonight. The Huskies drop to 4-4 and make the short drive to Lone Tree this evening.
