A pair of KCII area boys soccer teams will meet Friday night for non-conference action in Columbus Junction when the Wildcats host the visiting Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks.

Mid-Prairie comes into the match with a 3-2 overall record after a hard-fought 4-3 win over Monticello Tuesday. In that match, Ashten VanWinkle willed the Hawks to victory, scoring all four of Mid-Prairie’s goals. His five goals this year make the JET Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week the Golden Hawks leader. Nathan Cadena leads Mid-Prairie with a pair of assists. Dominic Pickard has spent the most time in goal this year, stopping nine of the 14 shots he has seen for a 64% save percentage.

After starting 0-3, Columbus comes into the match winners of back-to-back matches over Danville and Mediapolis. The latest being a 1-0 victory over the Bulldogs last weekend with Angel Hernandez scoring the lone tally. On the season the Wildcats are led by Felix Solis with a pair of goals. Candy Nunez, Omar Nunez and Luis Guererro each have one assist. Keagan Atkinson has spent the most time in goal this year at 180 minutes, stopping 13 of the 14 shots he has seen for a 93% save percentage. These two teams met a year ago in Wellman with Columbus taking a 3-2 win. Action begins tonight at 5p.m. in Columbus Junction.
