The Iowa State Legislature is working on a bill that will legalize sports betting in the state of Iowa. Representative Joe Mitchell says the state government committee is currently working on the legislature and will be making some moves in the next few weeks. Mitchell acknowledged the impact of the issue and said they’re not taking this lightly, “We just want to make sure that we have a bill that’s the best for Iowans and people who are responsible bettors, and want to bet on these games and do this the right way. We’re just listening to all sides right now, seeing what the best bill we can legislate is going to be.” In May 2018, the federal Supreme Court ruled to to strike down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, which prohibited state-authorized sports betting.
