Highland welcomed 14 wrestling teams to town over the weekend, including Highland, Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union and Washington, for the annual Gary Curtis Invitational.

Washington ended up winning the tournament in terms of team points, with three placing first and three placing second in their respective weight classes.  Tristin Westphal-Edwards stayed unbeaten to take the 182 bracket, Walker Ikerd won the 120 and Brandon Dickel placed first in the 126.  Second-place finishers were Logan Escher in the 195, David Hora in the 152 and Dillan Sanders in the 145, taking his first loss of the year.

Both Hora and Sanders lost to Highland wrestlers Cory Stewart and Brady Hahn, respectively, who highlighted Highland’s day at their home tournament.  The Huskies placed fifth overall behind their strong performances as well as a second-place finish from Dan Burton in the 170 bracket.

Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union wasn’t far behind, taking sixth overall by scoring just nine points less than Highland.  Some notable finishes for the Wildcats were Lane Scorpril and Chance Malone each taking fourth in the 106 and 220 weight classes, respectively, a second-place finish from Tucker Bright in the 132 and a first-place finish from Jarod Kadel in the 138, staying unbeaten on the year.
