The Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams traveled to Anamosa Saturday for a double header with newest River Valley Conference member.

The Golden Hawk girls won a tight contest 43-41. It was a game that the Blue Raiders led most of the way. It was a defensive battle throughout the contest with Anamosa holding a 12-9 advantage after one and a 17-15 lead going to the locker room. Out of the half the offenses picked things up but Mid-Prairie had yet to get over the hump still down 32-29 going to the fourth. In the final period the Hawks got their first lead midway through and wouldn’t give it up the rest of the way. Shae Becker led the Golden Hawks with a double double 15 points and 10 rebounds. Maddie Nonnenmann added 11. After the game Mid-Prairie head coach Stephen Bender talked about grinding out the win.

With the win the Hawks are now 8-4 on the year.

The boys contest saw a pair of early runs with Anamosa taking a 73-66 win. The Golden Hawks saw Tom Butters score their first six points as they raced out to a 6-0 lead. Anamosa countered with a 16-2 run of their own as the game turned into a shoot out. Mid-Prairie found themselves down 24-18 after one and 41-35 at half. Throughout the game the Golden Hawks kept the margin between three and seven points but were never able to catch the Blue Raiders. Mid-Prairie got a monster game from Tom Butters with 26 points and 23 rebounds. Cale Robertson added 12. With the loss the Golden Hawks are now 5-6 on the year.
