The Sigourney-Keota wrestling team has seen the first half of their 2018-19 season come and go, and though they’ve had their ups and downs, there’s still a half to go.
Mason Dye and Mac Conrad have been the story of the season thus far. Dye has moved around weight classes quite a bit this year, wrestling in the 113, 120 and 126 weight classes. He enters the second half of the season sitting at 15-2 and ranked fifth in the 113 weight class in the most recent rankings from The Predicament.
Conrad, meanwhile, is coming into 2019 with a 16-5 record. Four of his five losses have come in tournaments, and he ended up taking third twice and fifth once. The senior will look to continue his success throughout January and into the start of February with sectionals and districts.
As a team, the Cobras finished the first half of head coach Cory Van Den Heuvel’s first season with a 3-7 duels record. They’ll start off their 2019 calendar year on Thursday with three more duels against Iowa Valley, North Mahaska and Wilton.
