Two KCII area teams will face off in a scrimmage over the holiday break Saturday when Mid-Prairie takes on Highland.

The Golden Hawks enter break with a 5-4 overall record after a 64-50 loss to Northeast Goose Lake to close out the pre-Christmas portion of the calendar. For the season the Golden Hawks are led by Cale Robertson at 13 points per game, ninth in the River Valley Conference. Tom Butters leads Mid-Prairie on the glass with 88 boards, second in the RVC. Brad Tornow is best for the Hawks, in the RVC and is eighth in class 2A with 49 assists.

Highland comes into break with an overall record of 6-3 after a two game skid to close the first half of the year including a 51-48 setback against Iowa Mennonite last time out. For the year the Huskies are led by Trey Lasek at 15 points per game, sixth in the Southeast Iowa Superconference North Division. He is also the team leader with 47 assists, second in the Superconference. Lasek has put up those numbers despite missing significant time with a leg injury. On the boards Zach Lasek has pulled in 94 rebounds, second most in the SEISC.

This week, Mid-Prairie Head Coach Daren Lambert talked about what he is looking for from his team and what will make the day a success. “We put in a couple of wrinkles over break and we want to see what that looks like against live competition. Highland has a good team this year with quality, talented players and Marcus (Hall) always does a good job with them. Scrimmaging Highland and what they bring to the table will set us up great for the second half of the year.”

Action continues all day Saturday at Highland High School.
