The Lone Tree wrestling team now has the first half of its first season under head coach Clint Jones in the books.  Going into the new year, there’s a lot to look forward to.

The numbers aren’t the highest, so the team hasn’t secured many duel wins solely because of the forfeit points given up.  Typically, the Lions don’t wrestle a 120, 132, 138, 145, 152, 160, 182 or heavyweight.  But the guys they do have have had some success.

The 106 weight class has been the most successful of the year for Lone Tree, with sophomore Bryce Thompson sitting at 16-2 on the season so far.  Thompson seems to be the Lions’ best hope at a state qualifier, and he’ll look to build on his first-half success and take it through sectionals and districts, where he placed fourth and fell short of a state tournament bit a season ago.

Tim Mills has been solid in the 195 as well, sitting at 12-7 on the season so far.  He was sitting around or right at .500 throughout most of the first half, but a 5-0 finish to the 2018 schedule vaulted his record and gave him some momentum going into the second half.

The Lone Tree wrestlers will see their first action of the new year on January 12 when they go to the AGWSR Cougar Invite.
