The Mid-Prairie boys and girls golf teams are both on the course tonight when they take on the West Branch Bears in their River Valley Conference openers.

The Golden Hawk boys are coming off of a season in which they finished fourth of 13 teams at the River Valley Conference Championships and advanced through sectionals to the district tournament in 2017. The Hawks return five of their top six golfers from a season ago, led by Noah Schlabaugh and his 45 stroke per nine hole average from last  year. Mid-Prairie also returns Michael Callahan, Chase Cooper, Collin Gingerich, Chaz Patterson, Monte Slaubaugh, Ryan Slaubaugh and Ryan Smit.

The Mid-Prairie girls opened the season Thursday at home with a win over Iowa City Liberty 216-246. Paige Slabaugh led the Golden Hawks, the senior was the meet medalist with a score of 44. Other Golden Hawk scores included Abbi Patterson 53, Emma Mattes 58, Kenzie Bontrager 61, Abby Statler 62 and Alison Yoder 70.

The boys are in West Branch this afternoon, the girls are at the Kalona Golf Course, both meets start at 3p.m.
