The Southeast Conference will likely be adding a sixth school for sports in the 2019-2020 school year.

At Wednesday’s Washington School Board meeting, Superintendent Jeff Dicks explained Burlington is interested in joining but the conference doesn’t have bylaws to handle such issues, so the athletic directors have been meeting and the superintendents are informing their boards of the matter. Dicks said the feeling is that it would add to the conference, “So, typically a bylaws would make sure that you have all the sports that we all have so that we can support having you in the conference; the ADs have done that work and they feel good about it.” Burlington has taken the steps to inform their current conference of the likely change. The Southeast Conference currently includes Washington, Mt. Pleasant, Fairfield, Keokuk, and Fort Madison.
