The Sigourney boys basketball team is in action tonight when they travel to Montezuma for the class 1A district semifinals against No. 4 Lynnville-Sully.
The Savages are 10-12 on the year. They advanced through the opening round of the playoffs Thursday with a 60-49 win over the Moravia Mohawks. Brady Powers led the attack for Sigourney with 18 points. Dustin Haines and Kyle Weber each had 10. On the season, Sigourney is led by Powers at 12 points per game, fourth in the South Iowa Cedar League East Division. Spencer Magill is best on the team and seventh in the SICL East with 52 assists. Kyle Weber is tops on the team and sixth in the SICL East with 117 rebounds.
Lynnville-Sully comes into tonight’s game with an overall record of 19-3. They opened the postseason with a 65-33 win over North Mahaska. On the year the Hawks are led by Jesse Van Wyk, scoring 15 points per game, third best in the SICL West Division. He also leads the team with 182 rebounds, fourth in the SICL West. Tyson Vander Linden is best on the team and fourth in the SICL West with 78 assists. These two teams met in Sigourney in December with Lynnville-Sully scoring a 69-38 victory. The winner of tonight’s game moves on to the district championship game Thursday at Newton. Tip off is set for 6:30PM at Montezuma High School.
