The City of Washington had a significant decrease in receipts and disbursements in the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2017, according to an audit report from the Auditor of the State.
The reason for the decrease is “due primarily to the prior year issuance of bonds and notes primarily used to refund debt.” The City’s receipts totaled just over $13 million, which is a 28% decrease from the prior year. Receipts included nearly $3.5 million of property tax, $1.9 million of operating grants, $4.8 million of charges for service, $852,000 of local option sales tax, and almost $200,000 of tax increment financing.
Disbursements totaled $15.2 million, a 7% decrease; these included $1.9 million for public safety and $1.26 million for debt service. In addition, the City made payments of $1.7 million on refunded general obligation notes during the year.
