The Mid-Prairie School board will meet tonight at 7 p.m. with several important topics on the agenda. The board will hold a public hearing at 7:30 as part of their budget adjustments. During this time members of the public are encouraged to come forward and talk about their thoughts on potential budget cuts and curriculum changes. Recently, Mid-Prairie Superintendent Mark Schneider shared his thoughts on the public hearing and why it’s taking place, saying that because of the scarcity of resources caused by a lack of state funding the school district is looking at ways to adjust the budget and welcomes input from the public during the hearing.

Also during tonight’s meeting the board will decide to approve Jay Strickland as the new high school principal. Strickland, a resident of Crawfordsville, Indiana, was named Middle School Principal of the year by the Indiana Association of School Principals in 2013. This position is open because current high school principal Jim Cayton is stepping down at the end of the school year to take the same position with his alma mater, Union High School in La Porte City, Iowa.
