The Mid-Prairie Middle School is preparing to launch a new aspect of their curriculum by the end of the school year. Mid-Prairie Middle School Counselor Tracy Rusch is working with Junior Achievement of the Heartland to implement their program at the middle school level. Junior Achievement is already operating in the cities of Kalona, Riverside and Washington. Rusch explains there are three main phases of the program, financial literacy, career readiness and entrepreneurship. The programs goal is to prepare students for the workforce or secondary education following their time in the Mid-Prairie School District.
The first phase to be implemented at the middle school is career readiness. Focusing on 21st century skills Rusch explains the program consists of six lessons in each phase taught by volunteers in the community. The middle school is still looking for more volunteers.
