The 2015-2016 Mid-Prairie boys basketball team looked to reverse the fortunes of previous seasons.

The Golden Hawks ended the year with an overall record of 1-21, matching their win total from the previous season, the Golden Hawks were 1-17 in conference play.

Mid-Prairie’s lone victory of the season came on senior night in Wellman when they defeated Durant 55-50 in overtime. Nolan Faselt had 17 in the game to lead Mid-Prairie. The Golden Hawks also had several near misses during the year including a 41-40 loss at West Liberty on a last second shot, a second loss to Comets 55-52 that went to double overtime, a loss to Fairfield 52-44 in which Mid-Prairie held a 10 point lead at halftime and 50-47 loss to Wilton where the Golden Hawks missed a three pointer at the buzzer to send the game to overtime.

Mid-Prairie struggled in the offensive end of the floor, finding themselves in the bottom of the River Valley conference in field goal percentage, three point percentage, points per game and committed the most turnovers in the conference. On the defensive side of the ball Mid-Prairie was second in the conference with 33 blocked shots, but allowed 1,092 points on the year, most in the RVC.

Individually, Mid-Prairie was led by senior Nolan Faselt who averaged eight points per game. Faselt also led the team with 63 assists, eighth in the River Valley Conference. Caleb Statler was Mid-Prairie’s best rebeounder, pulling in 114 on the season, 10th in the River Valley Conference. Statler led the entire River Valley with his 39 blocks, next closest was Luke Whitlock of Durant with 19.

Mid-Prairie graduates four seniors from this year’s team Ryan Cortum, Ben Stone, Nolan Faselt and Noah Altenhofen. The Golden Hawks ended their season in the first round of the playoffs February 15th when they fell to the Wilton Beavers 49-35 at Iowa City Regina High School.
