While the State of Iowa’s unemployment rate remained unchanged from April to May, Washington and area counties had slight decreases. Washington County had 3% unemployment in April, but dropped to 2.8% in May. Henry, Iowa, Jefferson, Johnson and Keokuk counties also had slight drops in unemployment rates and none were above the state’s rate. Louisa County’s rate remained unchanged at 3.5%.
According to Iowa Workforce Development, Washington County’s unemployment rate has a 15.2% percent change from a year ago.
