Work on a bridge near Kalona damaged by arson in August is set begin to next week. Local crews and a company out of Michigan that specializes in metal bridge work will start restoring the Bunker Mill Bridge, a process that could take up to three weeks. Managing Director of Friends of Bunker Mill Bridge Suzanne Micheau says they recently learned that the restoration would cost $270,000. The initial estimate was nearly twice that. She notes that with in-kind donations and discounts it will cost even less.
