In their meeting on Monday, the Kalona City Council had a second reading of an ordinance which would allow the use of golf carts on the city’s roads. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says they chose to have a third reading which will take place at their first meeting in January, at which point they will vote on the ordinance. The golf carts would have restrictions on their use. They would only be allowed from sunrise to sunset, except during city or school events. So the carts could be used after dark to go home from a sporting event at the school. They would need to have headlights and a maximum speed of 25 miles per hour. They would not be allowed on Highways 1 or 22, but would be allowed to cross those highways. KCII will bring you more on this story in January after the vote.
