The Sigourney Savage baseball team is set to open their 2026 season tonight when they hit the road to take on the Pella Christian Eagles in the KCII Area Game of the Week.

Sigourney enters the 2026 campaign ranked No. 8 in the preseason Class 1A Iowa Baseball Coaches Association poll. The Savages completed a 22-4 overall season in 2025, champions of the South Iowa Cedar League at 16-0. As a team, Sigourney scored 305 runs on 249 hits, 84 for extra bases including a whopping 21 home runs, and batted in 252 runs. They finished with a team average of .365, a .519 OBP and .552 slug. Junior Lincoln Power returns to the lineup this season after leading Sigourney with 12 doubles. As a staff, the Savages allowed 86 runs on 122 hits, 86 walks to 186 strikeouts, a .213 opponent average, 2.77 ERA, and a 1.40 WHIP. Landon Conrad and Chase Clarahan each spent over 30 innings on the mound, combining for a 11-2 record. This week, Sigourney head coach Lee Crawford spoke with KCII Sports about what the 2026 edition of the Savages will look like.

“They’ll be a fun, energetic group. I think they’ll hustle. It should be, you know, a very good team that once they figure out, like, nose to the grindstone type stuff, I think they’re gonna be a very fun team to watch,” Crawford said.

Pella Christian finished 8-23 last year, 2-15 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. As a group, the Eagles hit .238 with a .379 OBP and .297 slug, scoring 146 runs on 179 hits, 38 for extra bases and 115 RBI. Individually, Logan Gallaher led with a .323 average, while Brecken Ritzert scored 26 runs. On the bump, PC allowed 258 runs on 202 hits, 177 walks to 202 punchouts, a .259 opponent average, 6.09 ERA, and a 2.03 WHIP. Ritzert is back after throwing 25 complete frames, striking out and walking 38 each.

The squads are tied two games apiece in the all-time series in the Varsity Bound era dating back to 2015. Last year’s matchup opened the Area Game of the Week season with a 19-0 Sigourney win.
