At the Iowa Boys State Basketball Tournament in Des Moines, both 3A semifinal games went to overtime. First, Southeast Conference school Mount Pleasant was facing the two time defending state champs Sioux City Bishop Heelan. The Panthers were up 55-53, but with one second left Heelan’s Alex Malloy hit a jumper to tie it and force overtime. In overtime, with Mount Pleasant down by two and 19-seconds left, the Panthers’ Scott Hahn hit a big three to give them the lead. But Malloy would hurt them again as he got a layup with two seconds left to give Heelan the win 64-63.

So Heelan will now play Waverly-Shell Rock who got a dunk with four seconds left to give them the one point overtime win over Norwalk 50-49. The 3A title game will be tomorrow evening.

In 1A, the team that beat IMS on Monday, Guthrie Center ended up falling to St. Mary’s, Storm Lake 62-49. So St. Mary’s takes on Danville, the only team to beat IMS in the regular season. Danville beat NU High 71-66.
