The City of Washington will be holding a downtown streetscape informational meeting Wednesday.
The meeting will be held with the project architect, and is open to business owners and members of the public who would like to learn more about the scope of the project, timeline, and ask any questions. The council awarded a contract to DeLong Construction for $1.6 million in April.
The construction will include removing the existing sidewalk and nearly 2,000 yards of roadway pavement. Crews will then install new sidewalk and pavement, including driveways. The scope of the work will improve walkability in the area. The work will be done on the east side of the 200 block of South Iowa Avenue, the east side of the 100 block of North Iowa Avenue, the north side of the 200 block of West Washington Street, and both sides of the street of the 100 block of North Marion Avenue.
Construction is scheduled to begin in June after the Ridiculous Days celebration. Funding for this project will be from Washington County Riverboat Foundation municipal grant funds and other saved city funds from previous years.
The informational meeting will be held at the Washington Public Library beginning at 5 p.m.
