The Keota Eagle golf teams continued the busy start to their season Monday with a road trip to Lynnville-Sully for a pair of South Iowa Cedar League triangulars with HLV and the home Hawks.
The Eagle boys brought home all of the hardware. Keota crushed the competition with a team score 165. Lynnville-Sully was second at 192 and HLV third at 196. The Eagles posted the four best individual scores of the night. Brennan McGuire stayed hot, winning meet medalist with an even par 36. Medalist runner-up for Keota was Tucker Sprouse with a 41. Other scores for the Eagles included Porter Cave and Aspen Galindo each with 44s, Blake Baker 47 and Jacob Libe 51. Eagle head coach Rod Hill talked on this week’s KCII PM Sports Page about the hot start for McGuire and the team.
Hill said, “We did get first place at Lynnville-Sully. We are kind of in that 160-170 team score range this year when we are playing well. We had the four top scores that night. Brennen (McGuire), played really well. Tucker (Sprouse) was second place at the tournament. Porter (Cave) and Aspen (Galindo) both shot 44. Blake (Baker) shot 47 and Jacob (Libe) shot 51. We had six pretty good scores. It’s really nice to have six scores, so you don’t always have to depend on your number one. Brennen has been playing really well. It’s really nice to go to an away course and shoot good scores. I was really pleased in that for the boys.”
The Eagle girls finished third of three schools with their score of 261. Lynnville-Sully won their home meet with a 210 and HLV was second at 227. Medalist honors went to the Hawk’s Brooke Hardeman with a 49. Runner-up was Sienna Molyneux of HLV with a 50. Top Keota card was Hadley Cave at 61, followed by Brynn Conrad and Emily Conger 64 each and Halle Heisdorffer 72.
