The Sigourney Savage girls basketball team opened the year with a convincing 55-31 road win at Albia. Sigourney controlled action early with a 17-4 run that lasted the full first quarter. They were on top 25-18 at half. The Savages outscored Albia after the break 30-13 to finish the win. Sigourney shot 29% to 27% for Albia. The Lady Dees won the glass 44-32 while Sigourney won turnovers 34-10, had 26 steals and won assists 12-9. Individually, Brynn Clarahan led the Savages across the board with 24 points, seven boards and five assists. Bailey Gretter and Devyn Smallwood each had six points. Ella Bruns and Gretter each had five boards. The win moved Sigourney to 1-0 as Albia fell to 0-1.
