Deer hunters in Iowa are reminded of the Help Us Stop Hunger (HUSH) Program.

Through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Food Bank of Iowa, and 34 participating meat lockers across the state, hunters can drop off their harvested deer as a donation. The processed venison will then go to families in need. Additionally, hunters can sign up as a deer donor through the Iowa Deer Exchange Program. An online database creates a map and table with information deer donors and deer recipients can use to get connected. There is no cost to participate. During the 2024-2025 hunting season 2,287 deer were donated, generating nearly 520,000 meals for Iowans.

In the KCII listening area, participating meat lockers include Crawford Meat Plant in Wayland, and Boyd’s Sausage Company in Washington. To view more information, including details on the HUSH Program and Iowa Deer Exchange Program find a link with this news story at KCIIRadio.com
