The Sigourney-Keota Cobra football team is building momentum toward the postseason after a 49-0 win at Cardinal week eight. SK led 21-0 after one, 35-0 at half and added two more touchdowns in the third. Cobra head coach Jared Jensen talked with KCII Sports about what he saw from his team. “The run game set the tone early. We were able to play-action pass. That backed their defense off a little bit. We overmatched Cardinal. Defensively, they like to throw the ball all over the place and as we settled into the game I think we covered that up a lot better. Special teams had another good night. Kick coverage was fantastic. (Owen Menke and Ike Molyneux) have been a pretty key cog in what we do offensively and defensively. Owen is a senior so we expect him to play the way he plays and Ike is a junior, getting more carries this season. I thought he did a fantastic job getting tough yards early. Landon Conrad had a big night. (Ayden) Galindo had a big night. Carson O’Rourke had a big night. A couple carries and some big runs. Across the board offensively, the guys we had in knew it was their turn, their shot, and they continued to give their best effort. John Berg had a catch. Carson O’Rourke had a big catch. Hunter Sellers had two receptions and a touchdown. The offensive line I thought did a great job for us. Defensively, I thought Chase Clarahan was in on a lot of big plays. John Berg had two interceptions. Our defensive line disrupted what they were trying to do.”
SK won total yards 429-125 including 345-16 on the ground. Ayden Galindo ran for a pair of touchdowns on three carries with 68 yards. Jacob Libe, Ike Molyneux, Blake Baker, and Brayden Wood each had a rushing score. Chase Clarahan connected with Hunter Sellers on a six yard touchdown pass. Clarahan and John Berg each had six tackles. Berg had two picks. The Cobras finish the regular season 4-4, 4-1 second place in 1A District 6. They open the playoffs Friday at home against I-35.
