An emergency water order was put into place for the City of Kalona following a main break near the city’s primary water plant Thursday night. Service has since been restored. The incident was announced at approximately 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
According to City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh, residents who live north of the English River were asked to stop any non-essential water use, including laundry, dishwashing and lawn irrigation until crews were able to restore full service. Residents were also encouraged to reduce shower length and turn off faucets whenever possible.
The line break prevented the city from pumping water to the tower, but did not interrupt service from the tower to residents.
Schlabaugh says that reduced water use could prevent the city from needing to put a boil order in place.
Water was restored to the water tower at approximately 10:30 p.m. Thursday night.
