A jury trial had initially been scheduled to begin last week for a Louisa County man facing felony charges related to a body being found along a gravel road in June. Earlier this summer, authorities arrested 58-year old Salvador Castaneda. He was originally charged with abuse of a corpse to hide a crime, a class C felony.

In August, authorities announced he’d also been charged with first degree murder, a class A felony.

The victim in the case is Noe Ibarra Tijerina, whose body was found with a gunshot wound to the head, and injuries consistent with being dragged behind a vehicle.

A $1-million cash bond was set and an immigration detainer was issued by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

A jury trial had been scheduled to begin September 30th, however proceedings were suspended while Castaneda is undergoing a competency evaluation at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Oakdale. A status conference will be held November 21st
