A rollover crash on Thursday led to an SUV submerged in Big Creek just South of Mt. Pleasant according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 6:10 a.m. on Thursday, the sheriff’s office received a report of a single vehicle wreck near mile marker 39, about one mile south of Mt. Pleasant. Authorities found the vehicle in a body of water with the driver outside of the vehicle.

An investigation showed that the vehicle, driven by Landon Yocum of Mt. Pleasant, left the northbound lanes of Highway 218, struck a guard rail, entered the median and rolled into the creek, landing upside down. Yocum was able to escape the vehicle. He was cited for failure to maintain control. The vehicle was later removed from the scene.

The Iowa State Patrol, Department of Transportation and Department of Natural Resources also assisted at the scene.
