
The best in the Southeast Iowa Superconference on the volleyball court got together last week for the annual league tournament.
Winfield-Mt. Union put together the deepest run, all the way to the conference quarterfinals Saturday. The Lady Wolves advanced through pool play at New London Thursday with a 2-1 record, scoring wins over the home Tigers 21-11 and 21-11 and Danville in three 21-15, 10-21 and 15-10 before falling to No. 2 in 1A Holy Trinity 21-16 and 21-10. WMU was led on the night by Madisen Kellogg with 35 assists, Quin Smith with 17 kills and two aces. Kaelyn Townsley with 10 kills and two blocks. Kellee Milks with 24 digs and eight aces and Shaye Nelson with 17 digs. In the Superconference quarterfinals on Saturday at Southeastern Community College, the Wolves, the seven seed, were ousted by the two seed Burlington Notre Dame.
The Hillcrest Academy Ravens were 1-2 in pool play at West Burlington. The Ravens got a win over Lone Tree in straight sets before falling in sweeps to West Burlington and Van Buren. The Lady Lions went 0-3 at West Burlington.
At Notre Dame Thursday, the Columbus Wildcats just missed a spot in Saturday’s finals, going 1-2 with a three set win over Highland 21-23, 21-11 and 15-8, a three set loss to the home Nikes 21-15, 9-21 and 15-4 and a sweep at the hands of Central Lee 21-15 and 21-11. The Wildcats were led by 36 assists for Daniella Diaz. Jessica Del Rio had 16 kills. Jocelyn Hernandez 37 digs and six aces. Kennedy Woepking with 13 kills and five aces. Zai Parr with 20 digs. Highland was 0-3 at Burlington.
