The Columbus Wildcat football team dropped a district contest Friday at No. 5 in Class A North Linn 54-7. The Lynx posted 22 points in each of the first two frames to open a 44-0 halftime lead. They would add a field goal in the third, and each team found the end zone in the fourth. Saturday on the KCII Radio Coaches Corner, Columbus head coach Dave Lekwa talked about his takeaways. “They were a big, physical team. They have a lot of skill players who can really do some damage with the ball. I thought they were even more impressive in person than they were on film. We had a lot of players where we could have had them for a short gain, or even a tackle for loss and they would slip right through our grasp. (On offense), they really limited us in the first half. We really struggled trying to move the ball. I thought the boys fought hard for four quarters, that’s just a really good team.”
The Wildcats were outgained 330-100 in the game, including 193-59 on the ground. The Lynx won the turnover battle 1-0. Will Sommerfelt led North Linn with 224 all-purpose yards and a throwing and rushing score. For Columbus, Angel Ineichen ran for 51 yards on 16 carries, Trevor Phillips threw for 41 yards and ran for the Wildcat touchdown. Kason Dopler caught two passes for 24 yards and Dopler and Tyson Kaalberg each had four tackles on defense. Columbus is 1-3 following the loss while the Lynx remain unbeaten at 4-0.
