Two people were hospitalized following a rollover collision in rural Wapello on Thursday.
According to the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office at approximately 3:48 p.m., authorities were notified of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 99 and County Road G62, less than a mile east of Wapello.
According to witness reports, 36-year-old Travis Hemmer was preparing to turn left from 99 eastbound onto G62. The driver behind him, 81-year-old Sharon Terry, struck the back of his vehicle, which rolled twice before coming to a stop in a ditch. Eyewitnesses told sheriff’s deputies that they did not see Hemmer’s brake lights or turn signal activate and did not see Terry slow down.
Terry and a passenger in Hemmer’s car, 18-year-old Ashley Matson, were both transported to the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Burlington. Terry was taken by Medforce, while Matson was taken via ambulance. Both drivers and Matson were conscious when deputies arrived.
The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office and Wapello Fire Department responded to the scene.
